I doubt many doctors the best way to protect your bones is to eat an alkaline diet. If you eat an acidic diet, your body has to work hard to neutralize those acids by pulling calcium out of your bones.

This NY Times article may get you to reconsider as well as this huge study in the British Medical Journal, which followed 61,000 Swedish women for 19 years. They found that their bones got no benefit when they consumed more than 750 milligrams of calcium a day.
Again, osteoporosis is best prevented by not eating an acidic diet that leaches calcium from your bones. Animal protein (including dairy), coffee, alcohol, refined sugar, and grains are the most acidic foods; whereas fresh fruits and vegetables are the most alkalizing, so eat your veggies.
