I am bombarded with books and workshops that promise forms of enlightenment. Do this and relieve your anxiety, be the "best version" of you, 10 steps to this, 5 keys to that.
Are you as tired of this messaging as me? It tells me something is wrong with me, and that I'm not good enough or ok unless I fix it.
What if nothing needed to be fixed? What if all that was called for was to meet what is, in the moment, with love and presence? Let's stop for a moment and rest together in the knowing that there is no pathology in our feelings, only a call to love ourselves.
We've been conditioned by our parents, teachers, mentors, therapists, coaches, media, entertainment, religion, culture, and heritage - to be at war with ourselves. But peace can be found, when we train our precious nervous systems to "be with what is". It's in the allowing that true freedom reveals itself.
Are you wanting to stop and rest? I certainly want to. I want to accept and love myself without the aggression of pathologizing my feelings. Yes, it's hard to feel anxious, depressed, desperate, angry, sad, but they are but flavors of life. When I open the gates of my heart and let it all flood through me, I feel alive, creative, and yes, happy. I felt the most profound peace and happiness of my life during tumultuous heart break and despair. How is that possible?
I have found within myself that slowly and gently building the capacity to feel all that arises naturally is the most enlivening experience that life offers.
