What will happen at your first acupuncture visit...
Your first visit starts with a consultation in a private room where we will discuss what brings you to us, and we will review your new patient forms and answer any questions you have. Your acupuncturist will suggest a frequency of treatment based on your needs, then you will receive your first acupuncture treatment that day, in our peaceful group healing room.
Answers to FAQs
Needles, are they clean, do they hurt?
We use sterile, disposable needles (used once, on you and that's it). They are tiny. Generally, everyone is nervous the first time they get acupuncture and everyone always comes back, take that as reassurance that acupuncture is no big deal! Watch this video that answers "Does acupuncture hurt?"
What do I wear?
Please wear comfortable clothing that can be pushed up to your knees and elbows so we have access to the points we might want to use. We are a scent-free clinic, do not wear clothing that has been worn with perfume and refrain from scented personal care products.
How long is the visit?
Your appointments will generally last about an hour with a few extra minutes on the first visit.
How often will I need to come in?
In a nutshell, acupuncture breaks up disruptive patterns, stimulates your body's innate healing mechanisms, and calms your nervous system. When working on new, chronic or severe issues, we recommend coming in frequently (2-3x/week) until there is an obvious improvement and you are maintaining results. We will give you a suggested treatment frequency at your first visit and want you to do what feels right to you.
What is the community treatment room like?
We take care to make our space tranquil and soothing. We provide blankets, ear plugs, and eye masks. We play soft music, and most people relax deeply and/or fall asleep. Most everyone appreciates community consciousness, and you can contribute positively by being mindful of your voice volume, keys, coins, jingling, phones, etc. :)
Can I come in without a "real" health issue?
We welcome and deeply respect the wisdom of patients who come in simply to give themselves the deep rest, self-care and nourishing reset that weekly acupuncture provides. Acunaps are awesome!
