My acupuncture teacher, Dr. Richard Teh-Fu Tan, taught here in San Francisco last weekend.
Dena and Vina were fortunate to attend one of his seminars and I went to one class for a review and just to enjoy Dr. Tan's skilled way of teaching and hilarious sense of humor.
Dr. Tan is a master acupuncturist who also created systematic approaches to make effective acupuncture understandable for any acupuncturist. He trains acupuncturists all over the USA and worldwide.
Dr. Tan revolutionizes the way any school-taught acupuncturist thinks about acupuncture because it is most often taught and practiced from the principles of Chinese herbal medicine; in fact, that is the standard. Acupuncture principles have more to do with meridians and opening circulation than with using specific empirical points to directly treat things like "Spleen Qi Deficiency" or "Liver Qi Stagnation". We have to understand where the problem is, then we direct the body with acupuncture needles. Like Dr. Tan says, your body is a circuit breaker with wires and switches, put needles in the right places and you can flip the switch. That's what we do, we're circuit breaker regulators! Ha ha.

立竿見影
lì gān jiàn yǐng
lì gān jiàn yǐng
...which literally means “when you stand a pole under the sun, you immediately see its shadow” or simply stated, when acupuncture is done right you should expect quick results!
