The following green foods are perhaps the most healing foods on the planet. They are also nutrient dense, energy enhancing, and detoxifying vegan sources of protein.
- Spirulina – packed with complete protein and B vitamins, it’s a nutritious powerhouse.
- Chlorella – high in complete proteins but also detoxifying. With industrial waste, mercury poisoning, metal dental fillings and pesticide residues – we all need assistance in detoxification.
- Klamath Lake Blue Green Algae – powerful food to increase your energy, stamina, focus and concentration!
We’re now offering all of these products (which I personally use) at the clinic for your benefit. Learn more about them below.
Spirulina – More Protein than Red Meat
When you think of protein, do you think of eggs, beef, or maybe a whey protein shake? None of those compare to the protein in spirulina*. Spirulina consists of 65-71% complete protein compared to beef, which is only 22%.
It’s an excellent source of vital amino acids and minerals that can easily be assimilated by your body. It only takes two tablespoons of spirulina to provide enough protein for an entire meal.
Interesting benefits and research:
- If you have an autoimmune disease such as Crohn’s, chronic fatigue syndrome, Lupus or fibromyalgia – chronic candida yeast can both cause and worsen your symptoms. Spirulina encourages and supports the healthy bacteria in your gut, which can help keep candida under control.
- According to this study, patients treated with spirulina got relief from common allergy symptoms like runny nose, sneezing, nasal discharge, congestion, and itching.
- This Mexican study showed spirulina regulated blood pressure with no other dietary changes during the experiment.
- According to this study of men and women ages 60-87, those given daily spirulina showed lower cholesterol levels than those who were given a placebo after 16 weeks.
*Due to high iodine content; do not take spirulina if you have a severe seafood or iodine allergy or if you have hyperthyroidism.
Chlorella – Takes the Bad Guys Out
This single celled organism is important for your body’s clean-up of toxic exposures from pesticides, vaccines (mercury is used as a preservative), metal dental fillings, eating fish and from other industrial sources that we are all exposed to regularly.
Chlorella detoxifies your body by binding to toxins and safely carrying them out of your system through your bowels. On-going research continues to show chlorella has an astounding range of health benefits such as:
- Repairing nerve tissues
- Enhancing immunity
- Improving digestion
- Promoting healthy pH
- Enhancing concentration and focus
- Increasing your energy
- Normalizing blood sugar and blood pressure
- Eliminating bad breath!
Chlorella is also a complete protein that is also rich in GABA (a brain chemical that calms the nervous system), folate, vitamin B12, and iron.
Interesting studies about Chlorella’s impact on common health problems:
- Insulin resistance and Diabetes – 1
- Insulin resistance and Diabetes – 2
- A Study on High Blood Pressure suggested that chlorella can decrease high-normal blood pressure and borderline hypertension.
- A study published last year found that chlorella may help improve pregnancy induced high blood pressure and anemia in pregnant women, likely due to its high folate, B12 and iron content.
- A Fibromyalgia Study in 2000 showed it may be worth considering chlorella if you suffer with fibromyalgia, although results were varied.
- A Liver Cancer Study in 2009 discovered chlorella triggers cell death in rat liver cancer cells, suggesting it may be useful in the prevention or treatment of liver cancer.
Check out this page to see a list of other health conditions for which chlorella may be of benefit.
Chlorella vs. Spirulina?
Spirulina does not have the ability to draw out heavy metal toxins like chlorella does. Spirulina beats chlorella in terms of protein content and has higher amounts of B12, essential fatty acids, and the antioxidant superoxide dismutase. Chlorella, on the other hand, contains higher levels of chlorophyll, nucleotides RNA and DNA, and beta carotene.
Ideally, it makes sense to take both, as one is not nutritionally superior to the other. Rather it’s the combination of both that can truly turn them into a nutritional powerhouse.

Potential Reactions
In addition to being your superfoods powerhouse, these green nutrients are extremely potent so it’s best to start with a small dose and work your way up.
Some people may experience slight nausea initially. This is likely because they’re pulling toxins out of your system. Mild diarrhea may also occur. If symptoms become bothersome, lower the dose. You can increase it again more slowly over time. Taking them with food may also alleviate the symptoms.
You may also experience an increase in metabolism that can elevate body temperature or cause temporary feelings of restlessness. Dark green poop and/or gas is normal at first, as is feeling fatigued. This is caused by the detoxification process and indicates your body needs more rest. Please take it!

Hi Ronit!
How are you? I love getting your newsletters; they’re so nutrient-rich in nifty health content. I’ve been taking Vita-Mineral Green for years. It has all the great stuff you mentioned. Am I getting enough of each of these superfoods with that?
Thanks so much, you’re the best!
Hugs,
Diane
Hi Diane,
If I remember correctly you eat pretty healthy; it’s hard for me to say whether you are getting enough of anything in particular without knowing your current diet. You may want to check in with yourself and go with how you feel!
thanks,
Ronit
